How To Increase Turmeric Absorption & Effectiveness
Turmeric Tip 1: How to make turmeric absorb up to 2,000% better:
Just add some black pepper. Seriously … that’s it.
Ok – lets get a little science-y …
One of the main active ingredients in turmeric is called curcumin. Curcumin is responsible for the yellow color of turmeric as well as that peppery flavor.
Black pepper contains a compound in it called piperine.
Studies have shown when you consume a very small amount of pepper with curcumin, it can increase the bioavailability (fancy word for absorption) of curcumin by up to 2,000%!
Turmeric is an amazing ingredient. But if you take this or give this to your Bulldog, add a little black pepper with it and it’s even more amazing!
Turmeric Tip 2: Turmeric boosts the effectiveness of Omega-3’s
The “good stuff” in Omega-3 fish oils are called EPA and DHA. EPA is primarily known for cardiovascular health and DHA is primarily known for brain health.
However, our bodies are not that good at converting Omega-3’s into EPA or DHA.
Recent animal studies have shown that turmeric increases the conversion of Omega-3 into DHA by 50%!
In other words, it’s good to take turmeric with omega-3 fish oils.
Turmeric Tip 3: Turmeric is better absorbed when consumed with fat
Some studies suggest that the curcumin in turmeric is more easily absorbed when taken with fat. So it’s theoretically better to take Turmeric with fat than without fat.
Note: both Omega-3 Fish Oils and Coconut Oil are high in fats and good options to take with Turmeric.
In our Vital Paws Daily Superfood Supplements for Bulldogs, we have Turmeric, Black Pepper, Omega-3 Fish Oils, and Coconut Oil.
